Hello all my horror friends and fiends! It’s been a while. After a much needed rest, I’m back with Season 8 of the podcast and exciting (kinda sad) updates!
ICYMI, Noah and I queened on the podcast over Jennifer’s Body. This month marked 15 YEARS since it premiered. 15 YEARS since the WLW community was forever changed. God bless Diablo Cody, Karyn Kusama, Megan Fox, and Amanda Seyfried. Give it a listen! Were you personally impacted by this movie like we were?
Exciting, but Bittersweet Update
In case you haven’t heard, I’m outside this year! Meaning I’m taking the podcast offline and getting more involved with the local community. It’s a goal I made for myself this year after showing out at various horror events last year.
In August, I hosted my first-ever panel at the Hudson Valley Horror Fest in upstate NY. It was a relatively small convention which made it the perfect first try! I was joined by two horror friends of mine to discuss gateway horror and I Saw the TV Glow. I spent more money than I planned, but at least I got this picture of William Ragsdale and Stephen Geoffreys from Fright Night (1985)
Coming up this October, I’m SUPER SUPER excited to announce that I was invited to be on the shorts jury panel for the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival! I got the email on my way back from the horror fest, actually. It was a surreal moment because I remember seeing mutuals of mine do similar things last year. I sort of made this a checkpoint of success: my mutuals have THOUSANDS of followers. I figured it would take another year or two at least. WRONG. So, a thank you is to all of my listeners and readers! Without y’alls subscribes, follows, and overall support, I doubt I’d be in this position.
Ugh, and now the dreaded part. This year has been a swirl of new experiences and exciting opportunities. Being that I’m just a 20-something-year-old, I’m still working out my path. I’ve been working on a project for over two years and I haven’t dedicated enough time to it. Building up my podcast and making a space for myself in the horror community has been my saving grace since 2022. This isn’t a goodbye. It’s not the end. I’ve had to come to the tough decision of putting it on pause though. I still plan to record a monthly episode to chat about any movies and books that I consume. If I have any press requests, I’ll do my best to see them through. Interviewing authors and directors is one of my favorite parts of this whole project. There won’t be regular episodes though. In three months times, I’ll be back!
I say it all the time, but thank you for your endless support. Whether that looks like listening to the podcast, or reading these newsletters, or just following me on social media, this is my proudest creation and it wouldn’t be where it’s at with you.
What to Add to Your Watchlist
THE SUBSTANCE- In theaters now
I realized many things about myself during my viewing. For one, I couldn’t care less about physically aging. I do, however, love society’s obsession with it and the art that has come as a result of it. I’ve never read or watched The Picture of Dorian Gray (this is my year of gothic, gay literature). I will always recognize its influence, though. Never have I not been entertained by a story about the slow, withering process of one’s self-image and how it’s externalized. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone who can’t sit through a David Cronenberg movie. Despite not being the biggest body horror fan, I loved how it was used in this production. There was a bit of whimsy, some comedy, and a lot of skin. It’s currently sitting in my list of top movies for 2024!
And that’s a wrap…
I’m checking many things off of my goals list for this year. Chuck Tingle on the podcast was a shining moment. Adam Cesare is the recent bucket list author to hop onto the show! If you’ve ever wanted to hear two horror snobs yapping, now’s your chance AHHAHA
